THE HOUSE “UNDER THE SINGING FROG “
At Retoryka Street (No. 1) there is a house called “ Under the Singing Frog “, which was built in 1889–90, according to a design by Teodor Talowski, one of the most brilliant Polish architects.
There are 3 more houses designed by the same architect on the same street.
Believe it or not but when going along this street one can feel like being in a fairytale ! Each one of the 4 houses is so much different and tells its observer another story both with its appearance or Latin inscriptions or with sculptures on its facade.
On the top of the building “ Under the Singing Frog “, one can see a figure of a frog playing his mandolin. This was to remind that when the house was built, Retoryka Street was alive with the croaking of frogs.
Nice isn’t it? 🙂
Krakow is fulfilled with many absolutely amazing townhouses whose facades are stunning but my favorite are definitely those designed by Teodor Talowski.
Therefore there will be more posts about his townhouses and also about himself.
If you would like to visit Retoryka street and see his houses with your own eyes , just let me know we can go there together 🙂
