A MAYOR OF KRAKOW
Juliusz Leo (15 September 1861 – 22 February 1918)
Krakow’s citizens really admire that man!
He was a politician and academic from Kraków while the city was part of the Austrian Empire, then Austria-Hungary.
Julius Leo was a professor of economics and law at Jagiellonian University and the city’s first deputy mayor from 1901 to 1904, then mayor from 1904 for three terms until his death.
He was the founder and first president of Supreme National Committee ,a Polish independence organization, and he was also a supporter of the idea of Polish Legions.
On 20th February 2018 his monument has been unveiled and right away became one of my favourite monuments in Krakow.
In winter time you may notice that Leo is wearing a shawl and a cup whereas in spring somebody might offer him a glass of cold bier 🙂
I will try to take some more photos so you see it with your own eyes 😉
