JAN ZAWIEJSKI

JAN ZAWIEJSKI

“Krakow architect” – as Zawiejski used to call himself.

Jan Zawiejski was a typical man of the long nineteenth century – an era whose rhythm was paced by two forces: industrial revolution and fascination with history. It was he who, as the city’s architect during the construction of the Great Krakow, largely gave some architectural shape to the city’s space, changing rapidly at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.” – by MHK

Only yesterday  I visited the exhibition dedicated to this aboslutely amazing man and I want to say that it is one of the most interesting temporary exibition I have seen lately.

Please have a look how Historical Museum of Krakow (MHK) describes it:

“The exhibition Thinking city. Jan Zawiejski’s Architectureis the first museum exhibition dedicated to the work of one of the major Krakow-based architects at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The concept behind the exhibition is a belief that architecture is like a text, in which the city’s story is recorded: the relations between the inhabitants, their collective identity, the economy, modernity, or power.”- by MHK

Would you like to visit the exhibition? If yes, just let me know  and I would be more than happy to be your guide there 🙂
